Help with oily skin

I often see clients with oily skin that I have affectionately nicknamed "oil phobic".
Oil phobic clients are so nervous that the skin will get more oily, they have effectively stripped the skin of any beneficial moisture over using astringents and also by avoiding any added moisturizers for fear it might make the skin oily. Here are my tips find the right moisture level to balance your skin.

First, stop using harsh astringents and toners that often strip skin of moisture. Alcohol and Witch Hazel can often srip skin of necessary moisture and disrupt the skins natural ph balance. Stripped skin will often over produce oil as a response. Instead, toners should be ph balanced nutritional solutions that help to balance the skin and initiate the hydrating process.

Oily skin is often dehydrated. Remember that dry skin needs oil, but dehydrated skin needs water. Even if you drink a lot of water, the skin can be dehydrated as the live layers and dead layers of the skin don't often exchange water as well as we would like them to. That being said, don't stop drinking water! Adding lemon to the water will also help to balance the ph in the skin.

Find a lightweight moisturizer that will not make you feel oily. A key ingredient you want to look for in oily skin care products is hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a glycosaminoglycan that holds 1000 times its weight in water! What this means for skin is not only can it add water moisture but lock in water moisture as well. This will go a long way in balancing oily skin at the source and resulting in the beautiful moisture balanced skin you've been looking for!
